Ceramic Onlay Series: 2 of 4 | Tooth Treatment Protocol for Bonding

Ever wondered what it’s like to see dentistry performed through the lens of a surgical operating microscope?

In this 24 post series, I take you along with me through the entire process of performing an Onlay (partial crown) on Molar Tooth number 3.

We will cover:

  • Onlay Preparation & Immediate Dentin Sealing

  • **Tooth Treatment Protocol for Bonding** [This Video]

  • Porcelain Treatment Protocol for Bonding

  • Bonding of Ceramic to Tooth Protocol

This segment highlights the tooth surface treatment in preparation for bonding the porcelain onlay to the tooth.

Once the temporary is removed, Airborne Particle Abrasion utilizing the CrystalMark from @crystalmarkdentalsystems is utilized to selectively remove the temporary cement and freshen up the IDS tooth surface for optimal surface bondability.

The tooth surface is etched, cleaned with Consespis @Ultradentproducts (2% CHG), and primed (Optibond FL Primer). The primer is agitated well and with patience.

The primer is left on the tooth while the ceramic is treated and prepared for bondability.

The joy of dentistry…one tooth at a time!
